What happened this week?

2026 Student leadership

We are very proud and excited to introduce you to next year’s school captains and vice-captains.

Well done to Nate Ashley and Noah Dinsdale who will be our 2026 School Captains and to Aurora Tatt and Logan Tyquin who will support them as Vice-Captains.

They were all presented with their badge yesterday at assembly, with a special presentation from Brenton Dinsdale who used to be school captain during his time at Heyfield Primary School, only a ‘couple’ of years ago.

Our new Student Leadership team will be running their first assembly on Tuesday for the traditional Hat Presentation to our new preps. This will start at 2:30pm in the library or outside, depending on the weather,

Music

Well done to our students who performed at assembly! Caleb Darby at the drums, Oskar Pohler and Jorjah Sparrow at the guitars, Jakobi Meers, Zoe Scott and Travie Willshire at the keyboards and this week’s vocals were Tess Stuart and Autumn Butcher. You all did so well!

Next week, we will have the pleasure to hear another band and the choir! This will include Millie Chandler, Tess Stuart, Autumn Butcher, Brock Horspool, Maggie Smith, Jack Molphy and Ivar Smith for the band.

The choir seems to change each week, as students decide to turn up or not, but it will hopefully include: Jaycob Leask, Harper and Carter Power, Zoe Scott, Freya Berry, Elsie Elliott, Karlie Valentine, Spencer Darby, Nicholas Speedie, River Lyne, Ahri and Mason Dunn, Mitchell Cormack, Elisha Chapman, Alex Lord, Walker and Jagger Cassidy, Tommy Johnson, Braxton Eastwell, Immy Dinsdale, Ryder Bowker, Tate Koolen, Maisie Pratt-Turner, Maggie Smith, Tess Stuart, Millie Chandler, Autumn and Huxley Butcher, Olivia Kellett, Indie Hassouras, Jacinta Carr, Charlie Bourke, Thea Pohler and Jorjah Sparrow!

What a choir! These students will also perform Christmas songs at the Laurina Lodge on Monday 15th and on the night of the Christmas Carols at Apex Park on Friday 12th December, at 6pm. A note was sent home so I hope you received it!

A snapshot around the school…

Brickstravaganza 2025

Dominic Vigilante has a talent with Lego and last weekend, he presented some of his creations at the Maffra Brickstravaganza. He speaks about this hobby with a lovely passion.

Well done Dom! They look fantastic!

Narrative writing

Room 1 practised more their narrative writing this past week and they had some very interesting stories! Maybe they will be publishing some before our Exhibition of Learning, which is next Thursday (11th December) from 2pm!

Wednesday Activities

It was a nice sunny day on Wednesday and our senior students who had chosen Lawn Bowls had fun learning on how to play this game. The Mindfulness activity involved Nature and students created some beautiful artwork using items they could find outside. The last rotation of activities is taking place this coming week. I wonder what Mrs Merlo and Mrs Patmore have in mind for cooking! Those cookies smelled delicious.

Wheelchair Basketball

The weather hasn’t been great on Mondays but students still participated with the willingness to learn more how to roll the chairs and pass the ball when they can. They have experienced small modified games of Basketball.

The last session of Wheelchair Basketball is due to be on Wednesday. Fingers crossed the rain holds off!

Some fun…

Your child may have come home telling some stories about a Grinch or two stealing decorations from classrooms. It was somewhat true but all tinsels, Christmas trees and paper chains have been returned. No elf was hurt, touched or kidnapped during the intrusion. Most importantly, everyone ended the day smiling again.

Lately, staff started giving each other kind words, praises and positive notes. At the end of each week, we picked one of the notes randomly and this person becomes the Colleague Of the Week! Hence, the COW. So if you come to the staffroom and see this gorgeous cow with our names on it, it is all in good spirits and fun.

This is a great opportunity for me to thank again the team of staff we have at school, from Education Support staff (including trainees) in classrooms, for the maintenance or in the office, wellbeing and first aid to all teachers. They are amazing and there is never a day I do not want to come to work. We are all feeling a little (or a lot tired) at the moment, but we bring the fun with us and make it through, with a smile on our faces.
