What happened this week?
This week in a nutshell…
Neale Daniher AO
Our student leaders flew the flags half-mast on Wednesday, in honour of Neale Daniher who after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) made it his crusade to fight the Beast and raise awareness to this debilitating condition. He co-founding FightMND and created the bucket challenge where people receive icy water or jump/slide in ice water.
You may wonder why the icy water. There are two reasons for it:
The icy water slide symbolizes the "freezing" and debilitating effect that MND has on the human body, progressively taking away a person's ability to move, speak, and swallow.
Medical research suggests that artificially inducing a cooling effect on nerve cells can help protect them against muscle wasting and decrease inflammation.
On Friday 19th June, our school will have their first Big Freeze and raise money to fund research to fight MND. We are lucky to have many people from Heyfield community who will participate in the bucket challenge. You can donate directly and write the name of the person you want to sponsor in your message.

Wednesday Activities
All students took part in the second last rotation of the activities last week and from the photos, you can tell they enjoyed it. The learning that takes place during these activities is priceless, especially the socialisation they experience with other students of various age groups.
