What happened this week?
SILVER AWARD!!!
Congratulations to us all for receiving this fantastic award for the work we have implemented around the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS). Nicole Bourbaud, the SWPBS coach for the Department of Education presented us with this special achievement and staff accepted the certificate on behalf of everyone at school.
Mind you, our student leaders were there too and I think Nate even said he is part of the staff anyway so it made sense he was amongst us too! Good on you Nate! You and the other student leaders definitely deserve to be in this photo.
A few words from Nicole:SWPBS helps schools to:increase respectful and positive behaviourstrengthen social and emotional wellbeingreduce classroom disruptions and increase learning timebuild positive, respectful relationships between students and staffcreate safe, orderly, and supportive school environments.
Schools implementing SWPBS:use inclusive, evidence-based strategies to support all studentsprovide ongoing training and coaching to staffpartner with students, families, and communities to ensure fairness and consistencyuse data to monitor progress and improve practices.
This can only happen with a significant time investment from leadership and staff within the school. This work is a long journey not a quick fix. I am pleased to let you know that only 2 schools in outer Gippsland have reached this level of silver accreditation. Congratulations to Heyfield PS staff for not only developing these things but also living them in everyday practices to increase learning and wellbeing outcomes for our students. This week in a nutshell…
MUSIC - A message from Mr. Bartlett
Well done to Rooms 5 and 6 for today’s performances! What a great job you all did! Next week, the Keyboard group will be performing for us. We will start assembly at 2:20pm.
Cross Country
Wonderful effort from our students who competed in the Cross-Country last Monday, in Yarram. There were some steep hills and they showed great resilience to complete the course. Well done to you all and congratulations.
Lawn Bowls
Room 8 students had much fun learning how to play the game at the Heyfield Bowls Club. It is not an easy concept to roll the ball accurately!
History and Geography
Convicts and settlers have invaded the school!!
Last Tuesday, the 3/4 unit experienced History and Geography a little differently, as they were put in the scenario of the convicts who travelled on the boats all the way from England to Australia. They ate porridge, used little lamps to do their writing, and walked with fake chains on their hands and feet to move around. They also designed boats in teams and mapped out the world to understand the distances between countries.
Thank you to Miss Schmidt, Miss Pugliese and Mr Fasoli for being so creative and create an interactive learning experience for our students.
Literacy Awards
Isla Fleischer received another certificate for achieving 50 nights of reading! Or maybe it was meant to be 55 nights. We will have to check with Miss Barclay! Regardless, well done again Isla!
Other Prep students who received certificates for completing their ‘word lists’ this week are: Skyla Green, Aria Lewis and Lillian Meacham for their Golden words. Great job and such proud smiles from Bodhi Shaw for achieving his Orange word list and from Amelia Tobin for her Green word list.
Super effort from Ella Davidson for getting through her Violet word list and receiving her award on her birthday! Happy Birthday Ella!
Congratulations to you all!
Walk to School Day
Thank you to Megan Stone for organising this year’s Walk to School Day and thank you to Donna Bradley for helping. Well done to all the children who joined Megan and Donna. It looked like a lovely morning for a walk.
PMP
Our Prep students had fun with the parachute this week when doing their P.E. session. Thank you to Mavis Bourke and Skye Shayne for help running those sessions. We value this program very much and it is always good to have support with it all. We truly appreciate you.
Wednesday Activities
Our first rotation of cross age learning ended last Wednesday and the hands-on learning group has been busy building some memorabilia that gifted to people who use the RV Park.
Thank you Bill for such a great idea. They all look very good and well done to all children involved.
