What happened this week?

Education Support Week

On Wednesday, we celebrated ES week and to thank our wonderful ES staff, we had a special morning tea with a cake, showing how fun they are. The reason why we think they are the best on the world, though, is more for their dedication, professionalism and always want to do and be the best for our students. They go beyond their roles, every day, and we appreciated them for this.

So to you, Rhonda, Ann, Megan, Nicole, lacey, Emily and Bill: THANK YOU!

Message from Bartlett

Fantastic work from Rooms 1 and 2 today at assembly. Room 4 will be performing next week at 2:30pm. See you then!

Wednesday Activities

Our Cubs weren’t able to go to The Lodge on Wednesday, but they still wore their bibs and they decided to practise the dances they will do in a couple of weeks when they are back visiting the residents at the Laurina Lodge. Our gardeners used the compost to mix the dirt and start thinking about planting the seeds they are growing in little containers. Our Lego masters made some great creations, and so did the craft group. As for cooking, they enjoyed making pancakes and fruit kebabs! It smelled and looked delicious. The board games group are creating their own board games. I think one of them are designing their own snakes and ladders even! The hands-on learning group is preparing more gifts to put at the RV park.

Safe Route To School

Last Tuesday, all students learnt about road safety, especially when walking to school. Room 1 designed posters that will be placed around the school. This is a good reminder to use the crossings when dropping or picking your child up. Only you can reinforce road safety, outside of school.

Maths and fun

Our 3/4 students designed a toy with unifix, as they are learning about perimeters and areas. They started this learning last week, and this week they created their design with cubes, pasted them and painted them. It is looking very promising.

Room 4 Handwriting

The display of Room 4 students is fantastic! Look how proud they are, but most importantly look at the writing they have completed already. We can see improvement already, compared to the first day of this year. Well done!

You can get them to show you, at home, how they hold their pen and how they write the days of the week. You could even, ask them to find days in a newspaper!

Crazy Hair Day

At the beginning of the year, when our Junior School Councillors thought about a Crazy Hair Day, I bet they didn’t think we would take the idea so seriously! Look at everyone’s creative minds we have at school, with the fun hairdos! So good to see how staff joined in the fun too! Thank you!

Steam Engines Visit

Thank you to Tom Lord for sharing his passion with our students, about steam engines. What an inspiring story that his is!

First, he told our students that Mr Shane Kelly was one of his teachers when he attended Heyfield PS.. a looooong time ago, apparently. And he enjoyed telling us how he was a little silly for our Mr Kelly! Then, Tom explained how he had designed a steam engine because it was already a strong interest at a young age, and later on, he actually built it! How amazing! And the best of all is that we got to see it, here, at school. You can see it on the pictures with the Furphy label. I hope you get to enjoy the steam engines that are coming to Heyfield this weekend. It will be on Saturday and Sunday at the Gordon Street Reserve.
