What happened this week?
MUSIC
Well done to Rooms 7 and 8 who performed at assembly. All grade 5/6 students did a fantastic job with their instruments and some of them were brave enough to sing too! Well done.
Next Friday, we will have Rooms 1 & 2 AND Rooms 5 & 6 performing at assembly We will start assembly again a little earlier, at 2:20pm. Don’t miss it!
GIPPSLAND WATER POSTER COMPETITION
Well done to all students who entered their poster. As you know Makayla Southey won a prize for her poster, but our school won a prize too!
We will be presented with $500 at assembly on Friday. Natalie Laugeni from Gippsland Water wrote: “Corinne Merlo entered wonderful posters on behalf of your students.” and she did! Than kyou to Mrs Merlo for this wonderful opportunity and well done.
A snapshot around the school…
BIKE EDUCATION PROGRAM
Well done to all grade 3/4 students who completed their first week of Bike Ed. They are learning to ride using skills such as turning and waving in between cones, as well as breaking and riding slowly to show they can control their bikes. We had police officers from the Heyfield Police station and the Sale Highway Patrol visiting on Tuesday. They will come back for a session on safety with the importance of helmets when riding bicycles and scooters, some cybersafety reminders and more.
A huge thank you to all parents who helped each morning with these sessions. It is greatly appreciated. The Bike Ed program ends this coming week, on Friday 31st October.
Debating
Students in the 5/6 grades practised debating this week and were able to put their points and opinions forward to others, respectfully and after researching their given topic. This is part of the oral language curriculum, speaking and listening, which are very important lifelong skills.
Wednesday Activities - Science
Students explored further the curriculum of Science with various experiments in each year level. 3/4 students had a focus on Physics while our Prep students looked at growing seeds into grass, as part of living things. All are learning about the process of observing and recording what they can see.
Some funny creatures in the Prep room!
Some funny creatures visited Room 4 this week, and I am not talking about the actual students!! haha Milla brought some leaf insects and we were all fascinated by the way they look. This was such a nice way to learn more about living things and link to the learning they do each Wednesday afternoon, in Science.
MAFFRA SHOW
Each year, our grade 3/4 students have the chance to travel to Maffra to the Agricultural Show. Each year, the bus cost is a covered by a donation from someone who wants to stay anonymous but who we thank very much.
This year again, all students walked around, looked and interacted with different speakers and presenters. They learnt from police and ambulance officers, (and a special MICA paramedic officer) and also some firefighters. They practised CPR and how to hold a fire hose. They also learnt to cut wood with the volunteers from the Gippsland Woodcraft Group.
PE
Well done to all students from Room 5 who were wearing their hats when doing PE. This is a nice reminder for everyone to remember to bring their hat if they want to play outside at recess and lunch.
