What happened this week?
First and foremost…
A huge thank you to all parents who have been at school for the last 2-3 days getting everything ready, then helping our students with choosing and wrapping presents for their special person for Sunday.
Our Mothers and Others’ day stall was a success again this year and it cannot happen with you all, so thank you very much for taking the time to do this.
This week in a nutshell…
MUSIC - A message from Mr. Bartlett
Apologies for the late change to our music performance today! We will make sure to have Room 4’s students performing for us all next week! Assembly will start at 2:20pm.
Room 4 learning
Room 4 students have been very busy learning about sounds and letters, even using shaving cream to practise writing them! They also do some activities to strengthen the muscles of their fingers and improve fine motor skills. They have learnt about sizes and heights in maths and who in the community are helpers, starting with adults at school.
Writing
If you have the chance to come inside the senior end of the school, please come and read what is displayed. The writing pieces from the 3/4 and 5/6 students are absolutely amazing. You are always welcome to check the books and the letters when you drop your child off in the morning or when you pick them up in the afternoon.
Book Fair
We cannot write creative pieces without learning from other authors, and reading is always an important focus at our school. Please remember to read to or with your child/ren, or listen to them read every day.
We have the Book Fair in the library for another two weeks, if you wish to come and have a look.
Literacy Awards
Good work to Wrenley Burke-Hills for achieving 25 nights of reading! Keep it up! Also, more of our Prep students received certificates for completing their ‘word lists’: EJ for his Golden words, Amelia for her Blue words, Bodhi for his Green words and Ella Davidson for her Orange words. This is a super effort! WELL DONE!
In room 5, we have two more students who received their Pen Licence! Lucas Speedie and Jack Bourke! Congratulations!
History
The grades 3/4 students are learning about the settlements and what journey the first fleet took, what they found when they got to Australia and how Aboriginal people used to live. They have learnt about what a timeline is and made their own.
Wednesday Activities
Our rotation of cross-aged learning has started and students got to choose between: gardening, cooking, crafts, hands-on learning, lawn bowls, riding bicycle for our juniors, basketball, making cards for our gifts of kindness and Lego masters. It was a busy afternoon and the weather was perfect!
Do It For Dolly
Students across the school have learnt about what bullying is and how to be an upstander when someone is mean. They also learnt about the difference between being mean and being a bully. This was all in preparation for today, where we could remember Dolly’s message without going into the details of her story. Her legacy is a beautiful one: Be Kind and Speak Even If Your Voice Shakes.
We raised $155 today and this will go towards Dolly’s Dream Foundation. Thank you everyone for supporting this, by donating money and wearing blue.
