National Tree Planting Day

To celebrate National Tree Planting Day, which took place over the weekend, on Sunday 27th July, St Michael’s and our grade 6 students were brought together at Lake Glenmaggie. Southern Rural Water had organised to have them all plant trees, as part of a program to reduce carbon emission. All students involved, learned about the importance to plant trees and linked it to the environmental value to support the creation of habitats for many species. They also made connections to what the landscapes may have looked like thousands of years ago when First Nation People, the Braiakaulung people lived on this land of Gunai-Kurnai.

It was a great way to bring students from both schools together in a context of learning. Scott McArdle, from Nexsys Industries on behalf of Southern Rural Water and his team were very helpful, organised and friendly.

Well done everyone for planting over 350 plants!

100 days at school!

Would you believe we have been at school for 100 days (or more) already!? It was very much fun to look at the number 100 with different lenses and have a fun day with our grade Prep students. They have achieved some fantastic work in 100 days and can be very proud of themselves.

Thank you very much to Megan for the cupcakes, Lacey for the fairy bread and taking great photos of our students. The display, in the corridor, looks awesome!

Thank you very much to Mr Davidson for planning this fun day and always trying to find ways to engage his students.

Senior Unit Learning

Looking at these displays, you can read that the learning has been around Geography and Maths for our 3/4 and 5/6 students.

Mapping is a very important skill, especially trying to read maps. Rooms 5 & 6 have explored the meaning behind the lines you see on maps, that represent mountains or hills. They added layers of playdough to show the depth and steepness of the mountains. What a very interesting way to represent it and make sense of it.

Mapping also involves thinking about lines but also angles. Rooms 7 & 8 drew great maps of towns, linking it all to angles.

Wednesday activities

A new rotation of activities started on Wednesday. Students had the choice between cooking, gardening, outdoor games, bugs, Lego Master, Laurina Lodge visit, hands-on learning, singing and Yoga!

The cooking group made chocolate balls, with Nutella while we had something a little more athletic for The Lions Cubs at the Laurina Lodge who danced for the residents.

Athletics Practice

On Tuesday will be our Athletics Carnival so students have been practising jumping hurdles and running. On Monday, we will send home the schedule for the day.

School Disco

This was a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who attended and a huge thank you to all helpers on the night and behind the scenes.

Principal Day

Thank you very much everyone for your kind words and all the beautiful cards I received today, or I found hidden all around my office. This was much fun!

I couldn’t do it without you all, so thank you and please know I appreciate you very much.
