What happened this week?
A snapshot around the school…
READING and THIS TERM’S READING CHALLENGE WINNERS
Well done to everyone who completed 35 nights (or more) nights of reading! Prep students were expected to read at least 20 nights, and most of them did a super job! We have one student who read every night, and recorded it all in his logbook, each night THEN brought to school each day: Braxton Helmers! Super effort Braxton! Keep it up! Next term will be more than 35 nights as a goal, so get reading!! Each student who successfully completed the challenge this term received a book as prize.
On the topic of reading, our grade 3/4 students read a book to our Prep students, yesterday and enjoyed spending time together, interacting with each other in a different way.
Stories of War
5/6 students have been studying the book ‘The War Horse’, this past term and they created their own story based on it, on the theme of war. This can be quite a confronting topic and have shown great maturity while learning about it.
Canberra Camp, in Term 4, will be a good context to reflect further on the impact of war, when we attend the Last Post Ceremony at the War Memorial.
ART
On Wednesday, our senior students did some creative knitting! It looked a little more complicated than using two needles, but Mrs Merlo made it very simple so everyone could achieve!
Learning exhibition
Thank you to all parents, carers and family and friends who attended our Learning Exhibition, organised by the Senior Unit. Students displayed some high quality work and could explain their learning. The presentations from 5/6 students were recorded and explained their project, as a diorama to support it.
I was very impressed with the details in all pieces of work. The toys from 3/4 students were also very creative.
Paper Challenge
Yesterday, 5/6 students were given the challenge to create a slide, using only paper! This was tested afterwards, to see if the different designs had the same speed, and/or could hold a ball going down the slides.
Work Experience Students
It was a pleasure to have 3 young people, from Maffra Secondary College spend the week with us, for their work experience. Two of them used to be at our school, with one of them a school captain.
Thank you Hayley Scanlon, Caitlyn Morris and Lincoln Patmore for being fantastic this week. Caitlyn, Happy Birthday again and I hope you didn’t get too much of a sore hand after sharpening all these pencils!! You all did a great job. All the best for the future.
