What happened this week?
A snapshot around the school…
Learning day for all staff - Curriculum Day
On Monday, while students and parents were thinking about returning to a routine with school, staff were already at school!
We learned together about students’ engagement and linked it to the concept of behaviour. We agreed that any learners would go through stages of being genuinely and fully engaged to compliant and even disengaged at times. We discussed that, what we aim for our learners is to be authentically engaged cognitively, but it is not sustainable for a long period of time. It also does not look or sound ‘quiet’ sometimes, and it’s fine. We read and reflected about functions of behaviour, and agreed that most behaviours of concern can be better addressed when we know our students well. We aim to teach them ways to express their needs, so we can support them accordingly.
We placed an emphasis on positive, safe and caring learning environment and looked at strategies to develop further positive relationships. We inquired into the difference between Students’ Voice and Agency, so we can plan for more choice in some learning tasks.
It was a huge day and our brains ticked a lot! However, it was a good day. The photos show staff ‘playing’ carpet bowling, but this was a challenge given to them so they could reflect on their own engagement during this task. The responses were quite funny and you can see how they all gave it a go!
George Ivanoff Visit
What a great entertainer George is! Make sure you check out the video! I think we could have sat there and listened to him for another hour, and I hope this will inspire our young writers to become creative writers!
LA CROSSE CLINICS
Our students have started the LaCrosse clinics yesterday. It is not easy collecting the balls with this new type of stick, but they all did a great job. Grade 1 to 6 students will do this for another two weeks, as part of their PE.
Prep students did some dancing yesterday and will do also PMP after some sessions preparing for Athletics Day, which is on Tuesday 5th August.
Lunchtime
Everyone is back! Cricket, footy, dodgeball! So many games out there and it’s great to see that it’s all being played in good spirits.
