Heyfield Primary School

Heyfield Primary School is centrally located in the town of Heyfield in Gippsland. The school is prominently placed on a rise overlooking the town’s magnificent wetlands area.

Major building works are scheduled for commencement in September 2009 as part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution funding. This building program will give the school large brand new classrooms, a large spacious administration area, library, art room and undercover area. The current buildings are complemented by spacious grounds, a magnificent student fruit and vegetable garden, a historic old church (multi-purpose room), several large playgrounds, a fitness track and several multi-purpose asphalt courts.

The school currently has a student population of 130 in six classrooms (Prep, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5 and 5/6). The school offers additional specialist programs in Art, Music and a one to one literacy assistance program for students in Year 1. All students have the opportunity to take part in the school's Swimming Program at the Heyfield Pool (seniors)  and Maffra Aquatic Centre (Juniors). Students in years 3-6 have the opportunity to be involved in the school's Camping Program. Students are actively encouraged to represent the school in athletics, swimming, cross country as well as both Summer and Winter Sports.

The school is part of the Active After School Communities Program which runs each term for seven weeks each Tuesday and Wednesday from 3.00pm until 4.00pm. There is no charge for this program and a wide variety of activities are on offer such as archery, dance, tennis and minor games.

Each classroom is equipped with computers which all have internet access. The school will also have interactive whiteboards and each class will have one installed before the end of 2010. The school realises the importance of keeping abreast of new technologies and readily implements new ICT initiatives.

School tours can be arranged by phoning the school on (03) 5148 2666 or emailing the Principal Mr. Russell Hodgson hodgson.russell.rj@edumail.vic.gov.au or alternatively information can be mailed by post.
